My story

My name is Rachel, I am 28 years old. I am a French girl living in the Netherlands.

I have lived in the Netherlands for over 5 years.

I work with carnivorous plants, in the largest carnivorous plant nursery in the Netherlands. One day we had to throw away a lot of plants ... such a waste! So I wanted to try to preserve such beauty and the best way is to squeeze them! My grandfather was an artist who used small pieces of paper to make beautiful collage works. I was just thinking of trying the same thing but with plants and that's how I started.

I make works of art with pressed carnivorous plants but not only, I also make jewelry with epoxy gel. As well as key chains and other stuff :)

The first piece of art I made was for my grandfather's 80th birthday. I found it so cool! I was very proud. So I took a picture of it and posted it on Reddit. I was very surprised at the good comments and the positive feedback.

A lot of people wanted to buy it and they asked me if I have an Etsy account. So I opened one (CarniArt).

The pressing of this type of plants can

take a few months.

It's actually very easy, I just use a flower press and newspaper to absorb the moisture.

The secret is not to use thick plants or they will rot.

After pressing, I select the most beautiful and make a collage.

After that I carefully frame it in a glass frame :)

Most of my designs go to America. I'm always trying new things, with different plants and new frame shapes. I try all kinds of carnivorous plants. I really like doing this kind of art.

I will continue as long as I am passionate about it!
